EXPEDITION ONE
British live music events and Film/TV productions have three things in common: One, they’re incredibly popular and bring great pleasure and entertainment to many millions. Two, they jointly contribute over £18 billion per year to the UK economy. And three; at a critical point as we battle the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced, carbon emissions in both sectors are increasing.
To face this moment head-on, Liverpool is offering these two vital sectors a city-wide petri dish, the partners, and the systemic support to test and pioneer deep carbonisation and the urgent phase-out of fossil fuels.

Present Shock II
Present Shock II confronts the viewer with a barrage of statistical clocks displaying real-time data sourced from the internet. Juxtaposing life-changing global events related to consumption and environmental issues with the banal trivia of everyday existence, the work embodies the ‘context collapse’ of our present moment, disrupting our sense of time, coherence, and reality.
This artwork marks an inception point for UVA’s practice, reimagining the real-time data installation created with Robert Del Naja for Massive Attacks 100th Window Tour in 2003. The sound for the work is dynamically generated by an audio system developed by Del Naja in collaboration with adaptive producer Robert Thomas.
Expedition One runs alongside three live shows being held at M&S Bank Arena by Massive Attack, Nile Rodgers and IDLES.
Free tickets to all events are available HERE
Three-nights of live music is heading to ACC Liverpool from the 28 - 30 November in collaboration with Massive Attack, Act 1.5 and SJM Concerts.
Liverpool - under UN Climate Change’s Entertainment and Culture for Climate Action (ECCA) programme - has been recognised for its commitment to trial innovative new ways to rapidly decarbonise the live music and TV/Film production sectors.
