There are so many places to enjoy a bit of outdoor dining in Liverpool.

 

From rooftop bars to restaurants at historic landmarks, hidden gems in trendy neighbourhoods, there is a cuisine for everyone to enjoy out in the sun in the summer months.

We’ve made a few suggestions on different parts of the city to head to find somewhere to pull up a chair and enjoy the lovely weather! We'll keep updated this blog so keep checking back for more ideas. 

 

Royal Albert Dock

 

The Royal Albert Dock is a beautiful spot to head over in the summer to soak up the sun, the incredible views and amazing food. With coffee shops, restaurants and bars on offer, there is something for everyone! We’ve suggested a few below to check out. 


Madre

For a taste of Mexico in Liverpool head over to Madre to enjoy their authentic tacos, quesadillas and margaritas at this modern Mexican taqueria. Their outside terrace is huge and is the perfect place to soak up the sun all day long. 

 

One O’Clock Gun

From the team behind Maray, One O’Clock Gun brings together an imaginative cocktail list, wine on tap, and a great selection of draught beers for you to enjoy alongside pies from the Great North Pie Co, beautiful breakfasts, grilled cheese sandwiches and cheese boards - sounds perfect doesn’t it?

 

Maray

Pull up a chair outside Maray and enjoy a menu of mouth-watering Middle Eastern inspired dishes. With fresh seasonal ingredients and a huge veggie and vegan selection, it’s the ideal menu for soaking up the sun. 


Lunyalita

It doesn’t get much better than tapas from Lunyalita on a sunny day at the Royal Albert Dock. The Catalonia inspired menu offers everything from sharing platters to classics and a twist on our local dish, scouse. 


Maritime Museum

Fancy somewhere to rest your legs and enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake? The Maritime Museum cafe is where you need to head! Tucked into the inside of the dock, it’s the perfect suntrap for watching the world go by. 


Pull up a seat for a drink at the Dock

Just looking for somewhere to refresh and rehydrate? There are lots of bars at the Royal Albert Dock to do that too! Check out Burnt Milk Hotel to sample their organic wine selection, The Long Shot Bar for a refreshing pint and to keep an eye on the sports and Revolucion De Cuba for some Cuban-inspired cocktails. 

 

Castle Street

The Castle Street area is known for a great selection of restaurants and bars perfect for soaking up the sun with a tasty dish. Check out a few of these on your next visit. 

 

River Blu
 

On the corner of Castle Street Riva Blu is an Italian restaurant and bar boasting an open kitchen, cocktail bar and a large alfresco terrace so you can dine out in the open air with a cocktail in hand. 


Bacaro


In Venice, a bacaro is a pub where snacks called cichetti are served on small plates and wine is served in a small glass. Recreate that feeling with Italian inspired dishes under the sun at Bacaro

 

Bouchon


For the ultimate Parisian experience in Liverpool, Bouchon is the place to go. Pull up a chair in their sunny terrace and relax with a cold drink, beautiful food and modern French dishes. 

 

Bobo

Celebrate Portuguese and Spanish wine culture at Bobo on your visit to Castle Street. Pop in for a coffee, chat for hours with a bottle of wine or indulge in a cocktail whilst taking in all the sights and sounds of Castle Street. If you’re looking for something a little special for the weekend too, their bottomless brunch charcuterie and cheese boards are a must! 


Rudy’s Pizza


You can’t go wrong with pizza on a lovely sunny day and Rudy’s traditional Neapolitan pizza is a must try. Served up fresh with all your favourite toppings, pick your slice and enjoy the sunshine. Rudy’s also have venues on Bold Street and the Royal Albert Dock so wherever you are in the city you’re not far from their tasty pizza! 

 

Explore the rest of the Castle Street area too


Head down the streets off Castle Street and you’ll find lots more alfresco dining options too. Try Moose Coffee on Dale Street for seriously good fluffy pancakes and breakfast dishes, Fazenda for an Argentinian and Brazilian dining experience, El Gato Negro for tasty tapas or Ma Boyles for classic dishes right next to the Royal Liver Building. 

 

Bold Street


Explore cuisines from all around the world at Bold Street and the Ropewalks area of the city. You’ll find something for everyone here with lots of options for dining under the sun. 


Jimmy’s

For good beer, good music, good food and good times head over to Jimmy’s at the top of Bold Street. They have an outdoor seating area so you can enjoy their tasty burgers and drink with the best view of Bold Street and St Luke’s Church. 
 

LEAF


Leaf is a very popular spot on Bold Street and for good reason, their breakfast, lunch and evening menus are super tasty, their tea and cocktail selection are hard to beat and there’s space out in the sun all day! 


Bold Street Coffee

If you’re in need of a little pick-me-up then Bold Street Coffee can sort you out. Grab a coffee to go or sit out the front enjoying one of their incredible Egg Buoys, trust us, you need to try these!


Pho 


If you’re in the mood for Vietnamese Street Food out in the sun then Pho is the place for you. With everything from Pho, to noodle and rice dishes and a kids menu, it’s a popular spot in the city. 


Fat Hippo


You can’t go wrong with a dirty burger and Fat Hippo do a whole menu full of them! Pull up your seat outside and watch the hustle and bustle of Bold Street enjoying one of their beef, chicken or vegan burgers, you’ll need lots of napkins for these ones.

Crazy Pedro’s


Crazy Pedro’s roof terrace is a sun trap and the best place around to grab a cocktail with a slice of pizza. They do topping combinations you will have never seen before like ‘The Mac Daddy’ or ‘Fried Chicken and Waffle’ - perfect for an afternoon snack in the sun. 

 

The Merchant


The Merchant is a little hidden gem on Slater Street and has one of the coolest beer gardens around. The bar is popular due to their selection of gin and resident pizza makers, Nightcrawler Pizza. Grab a slice and a G&T and chill out in the sun. 

 

Patterson’s


Hidden down Gradwell Street Pattersons is certainly the place to visit for some of the best fried chicken around on a roof terrace in the sun. Serving everything from burgers, wings and buckets of chicken; your afternoon can’t really get much better than that, can it?


Amalia

Head over to Amalia off Duke Street for award winning pizzas made like they’ve come straight out of Italy. Their sun trap courtyard is just off the beaten track but close enough to still enjoy all the action and an afternoon lunch under the blue skies.

 

The Baltic Triangle 

The Baltic Triangle area of the city is home to some of the coolest spots in town, from street food markets to gig venues and lots of outdoor bars - head over to explore!

 

The Baltic Market

The Baltic Market is a trendy food and drink market inside a huge warehouse in the Baltic Triangle but in the summer the fun spills out onto their outdoor seating area. Bring the whole clan, dogs included, and soak up all the atmosphere the Baltic has to offer. With a range of kitchens changing all the time, you’ll find something different here every time. 

 

Botanical Garden

Between March and October the Botanical Garden is a sun trap hidden in the middle of the Baltic Triangle. With a cocktail menu to make your mouth water and a whole lot of gin, this is the place to head in the summer. They are currently serving delicious Detroit pizzas by the Hot Mess Pizza Company too - if you need any more reasons to go. 


Hope Street District


The Quarter

Pull up a seat at The Quarter on the corner of Hope Street and sit amongst the cobbled streets of the Georgian Quarter, soaking up the sun with a beautiful breakfast, tasty Italian dishes or a slice of cake and a cocktail. 


Buyers Club
 

Buyers Club’s garden is one of Liverpool’s hidden gems and a must to visit if you’re in the city during the Summer months. Their tasty menu of Italian inspired pizzas, pastas and desserts go down well with a cooling cocktail in the sun. 

 

Free State Kitchen

 

For a contemporary twist on American classics in a secret garden, head over to Free State Kitchen on Maryland Street. Serving up everything from mouth watering burgers, reuben sandwiches, wings and chowder. Your scouse version of America awaits!


Liverpool ONE


There’s lots of places to enjoy a meal al fresco at Liverpool ONE. Head out onto the terrace to find all your favourite well known brands amongst some great local venues too. 

 

The Club House


For a slice of The Hamptons in the heart of Liverpool, head over to The Club House in Liverpool ONE for lunch in the sun. They have a huge terrace with lots of seats to enjoy their classic dishes and famous hanging kebabs in the beautiful weather. 

 

Mamasan


The contemporary South East Asian inspired restaurant Mamasan at Liverpool ONE has a beautiful terrace area for enjoying their fresh dishes and cocktails out in the sun. 


Gordon Ramsay Bread Street Kitchen & Bar


Head over to Bread Street Kitchen to try Gordon Ramsay’s classic dishes, from the famous Beef Wellington to traditional fish and chips, seasonal salads and a great cocktail list. There’s a big seating area outside too so you can enjoy the sun whilst you dine.
