There are so many types too! From a classic carbonara to lasagne and tortellini or even everyone’s favourite, penne - the famous Italian dish is always a good option when you’re after something to eat.

Liverpool’s vibrant food scene has loads of Italian restaurants you can head to when you’re in the mood for pasta and we’ve picked out some of the best ones to save you the trouble of searching.

This family run restaurant is the best place to go for a hearty home cooked bowl of pasta. A favourite amongst the locals, this Italian restaurant is hidden away behind Duke Street and makes for the perfect spot to stop off for lunch. With loads of pasta dishes to choose from and pizza that has been voted the best in England three times, you won't be disappointed.

It’s a great place to stop off whilst exploring the Ropewalks area of the city.

Serving up fresh Italian Food in the heart of Liverpool, Trattoria 51 uses classic Italian recipes passed down over generations to bring you a dinner that won’t disappoint. Think Lasagne, Spaghetti Bolognese, Penne with different sauces and everything in between.

Born from the love of good food, fine wine and family, The Italian Club on Bold Street is a firm favourite amongst the locals when they are in need of a good bowl of pasta. With everything from gnocchi to lasagna, ravioli and spaghetti on the menu, the whole family will enjoy it here.

The second venue from the team behind The Italian Club, The Italian Club Fish serves all your favourite pastas but with seafood as the star of the show. It’s the perfect place to go if you’re a lover of fish because you know they’re going to do it justice.

Find Villa Romana in the heart of the city for traditional home cooked Italian food. Their freshly made pasta comes in all shapes and sizes with a great wine menu to wash it all down with. It’s a great place to head for an evening meal out.

Gusto on the Royal Albert Dock is a great place for a special evening out taking in one of Liverpool’s most famous landmarks with a bowl of pasta. Their menu is mouthwatering but they recommend trying the Milanese Saffron Risotto, which we agree, sounds amazing.

Liverpool’s San Carlo is a bit different to the rest of their venues in that it’s not a theme restaurant but a highly lavish Italain venue for lovers of fine food. Their range of pasta and sauces will have you spoilt for choice and you’ll leave wanting to return back for more.

Find The Quarter on the cobbled streets of the Goergian Quarter and enjoy a bowl of pasta with views of one of Liverpool’s most beautiful areas. Sit outside in the summer months to soak up the sun and lunch won’t get much better.
